Common Paid Advertising Mistakes Businesses Make

Most wasted ad spend is ordinary. Broken tracking, mixed campaigns, a homepage doing a landing page’s job, and a budget increase on a result nobody has checked.

Optimizing toward the wrong event

If the platform is told that a page view is a conversion, it will find cheap page views. If every button click counts, it will find clickers. The conversion action should be the lead, the call, or the purchase. Anything softer is a diagnostic, and it should be labeled that way.

One campaign doing every job

Brand search, generic search, prospecting, and retargeting have different costs and different intent. Combined, they produce an average that nobody can act on. Split them. The account will look busier. The decisions will get simpler.

Scaling a number you have not audited

Doubling the budget on a cost per lead that includes duplicates, spam, and out-of-area forms just buys more of that. Check a sample of leads against the qualification rules before you scale. Look at search terms. Look at placement reports. Look at the page on a phone.

Other repeats: no negatives, sending paid traffic to a slow page, judging social and search on cost per click, and changing five things at once so the result cannot be explained. Fix the measurement, then the message, then the money. The media buying process on this site is built in that order.
