Performance Marketing Measured Against the Business

Performance marketing means the campaign is accountable to an outcome: a qualified lead, a customer, a purchase, a booked job. Clicks, reach, and cheap traffic are inputs. They are not the result.

Outcomes before activity

We start with the number the business is willing to pay for a customer, or the return a sale needs to produce. Channel plans, creative tests, and landing pages are then built to move that number. A campaign that looks busy and cannot show acquisition cost is not a performance program.

This is broader than a single ad account. Audience research, media buying, creative, conversion rate, and tracking are one system. If one piece is missing, the report will flatter the wrong metric.

  • A defined conversion and a target cost
  • Media chosen for that conversion
  • Tests with a decision rule
  • Reporting in business language
  • Budget moved toward what holds up

Vanity metrics stay in their place

Impressions, click-through rate, and video views can explain why a campaign is or is not converting. They do not replace cost per acquisition, qualified pipeline, or return on ad spend. We report the diagnostic numbers next to the business numbers, not instead of them.

What we watch

  • Customer acquisition cost
  • Cost per lead
  • Return on ad spend
  • Conversion rate through the funnel
  • Revenue or pipeline influenced by paid media, when it can be tracked honestly
