How to Build a Performance Marketing Funnel
A performance marketing funnel is the path from a person who does not know you to a customer you can count. Each step should have a job, a measurement, and a reason to exist.
Name the steps you actually have
A typical paid funnel is: impression, click, landing page, lead or purchase, qualified opportunity, customer. Yours might skip a step or add a demo. Map the real path. Do not copy a five-stage diagram that your sales process does not use.
Give each step a number
Attention is not a KPI by itself, but you should know how many of the right people had a chance to see the offer. The click should land on a page with a conversion rate you watch. The lead should have a qualified rate. The customer should have a cost.
When a step has no number, the team argues from anecdotes. When every step has a vanity number, the team argues from impressions. Pick the one number that decides budget, and let the others explain it.
Build it in order
Tracking first, then the page, then the media, then scale. Reversing that order is how accounts end up with spend and no trustworthy conversion. Performance marketing is this sequence practiced every week, not a set of channels.
- Define the customer and the acceptable cost
- Instrument the conversion
- Send traffic to a page with one job
- Buy media against that conversion
- Move budget only after the numbers hold
